On Wednesday 13th January, our much loved brother, son and friend Owen Auskerry, suffered a brain aneurysm. It began as a severe headache but when he started vomiting and having seizures his lovely and quick-thinking girlfriend Janjira and friend Kyle called an ambulance. They went with him to the local hospital and contacted family in the UK.
As a family we paid for him to be flown by air ambulance to Bangkok to receive the best possible care with one of the finest neurologists in the country. He has been in a medically induced state of sedation ever since, apart from the odd time he partially opened his eyes and appeared to smile at those looking after him.
Our parents, Simon and Teresa, immediately set off from Orkney to Thailand via Aberdeen and Amsterdam to be by his bed side and give authorisation for his brain surgery on Friday 15th. After three and a half hours of invasive surgery into Owen’s skull, the surgeon pronounced the operation a success!
We now believe and hope he is on the road to recovery. All of us have been deeply touched by the influx of messages of support and love for Owen, who we all recognise as a wonderfully loving, lively, eccentric, funny and talented young man (we’ve linked to some of his DJ mixes below).
